Recently, spy photos of Ford's electric pickup truck undergoing road tests have been released. The vehicle in the spy photos is smaller than the Ford Maverick (the entry-level compact pickup truck).
The spy photos show a heavily camouflaged vehicle, making the true outline of the front end virtually impossible to discern; only the headlights and lower air intake grille openings are clearly visible. The new vehicle features a steeply raked windshield, a design that helps reduce wind resistance and improve range for a pickup truck.
The chassis of the new vehicle is relatively low, similar in height to that of a city SUV. Judging from the wheel arch design, it is primarily developed for urban road conditions rather than hardcore off-roading. The spy photos also show a long second-row door, meaning that the longitudinal seating space in the second row will be greater than in a typical compact pickup truck, improving passenger comfort.
The rear windshield of the spy photo vehicle was also camouflaged. Based on previously released concept images, it's known that this new pickup truck's rear window may feature a unique shape or angle to optimize aerodynamics.
Due to the increased longitudinal space in the second row, the new vehicle's bed length is relatively short. Therefore, Ford's development philosophy for this new electric pickup truck is to ensure passenger comfort while maintaining cargo capacity.
This electric pickup truck is expected to launch in 2027, and may be equipped with lithium iron phosphate batteries. It is anticipated to adopt the name of the classic Ranchero (a classic two-door multi-purpose vehicle produced by Ford from 1957 to 1979).
